We ask that you sign a contract on the arrival of your horse at Doghill Stud. This is to protect both you and your horse, authorises us to act in an emergency on your behalf and generally states clearly the expectations of both parties. It includes the T&C’s below;
Doghill Stud and Retirement livery will provide livery for your horse.
We will provide this service with reasonable care and skill, and put your horse’s welfare first at all times.
We will ensure a safe, secure environment for you, your visitors and your horses.
We will provide additional services and supplies as requested, where reasonable and practicable.
Should we have to provide additional care, services or supplies reasonably required for the welfare of your horse, we will do so without necessarily informing you first and you will be liable for any charges for such care, services or supplies.
We will maintain Public Liability Insurance and comply with the Health and Safety at work Act and Regulations made there-under in respect of employees, the proprietors and any visitors to the premises.
- What we cannot do
We cannot supply services for any horse which is considered dangerous or where there is an unacceptable risk to the health and safety of any person working on or visiting the farm or where the welfare of that or any other horse or livestock will be compromised by so doing.
Doghill Stud will take all reasonable steps to protect your property and your horse but cannot be held responsible for any personal injury to any person, injury or illness or loss sustained by your horse or any loss or damage to your property or that of any visitors.
Children under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.
Doghill Stud will not accept any responsibility whatsoever for unaccompanied minors.
- What you will do.
You will provide the care for your horse which is your responsibility according to your individual livery schedule, in such a manner that its welfare or that of any other livestock on the premises is not compromised and in accordance with any guidance or rules posted on the yard or in the feed room.
You will provide a serviceable, correctly fitted head collar and lead rope for the use of your horse, whilst it is at Doghill Farm. You will provide appropriate and properly fitting stable and turnout rugs for your horse to be used as needed.
Dogs are NOT permitted on the premises at any time.
You will give us your horses passport, which we will retain whilst your horse is at Doghill Farm.
You will maintain adequate third party liability insurance in respect of your horse, including insurance for any liability for death and personal injury and will produce evidence of this where requested.
You will adhere to the Doghill Stud worming policy, which will be posted in the feed room and may be changed from time to time.
You will abide by any rules which may be posted in the yard or feed room and ensure that any accompanying visitors are aware of and observe the rules.
You will ensure that any accompanying visitors, including children, are supervised to ensure they do not cause loss or damage or cause a nuisance to other people or livestock on the farm. Please note you are strictly liable in law for any loss or damage caused by your horse(s). You will be liable for any damage or injury caused by your horse.
You will pay fees and charges promptly as invoiced.
You will notify us promptly of any change of your contact details.
For your security and that of your horse, you will notify us in advance if you authorise any other person to attend or provide any service to your horse(s) at Doghill Farm.
You will not operate any form of business from Doghill Farm.
- Payment terms.
A 4 week security deposit is required the day before arrival or to hold a livery place. This will be returned on your date of departure following settlement of all fees and costs. Livery fees from the day of arrival to the end of that calendar month, to be paid the day before arrival.
We will invoice you monthly in advance for the livery service as detailed in the Doghill Stud price list, which may be updated from time to time. Any additional services or products supplied will be invoiced in arrears. Should you encounter any difficulties in making payments when due, please let us know as soon as possible, so an agreement can be reached to resolve any difficulties. Payment will be due in full on the 1st of the month following invoice by standing order or BACS. We are unable to accept cheques.
Should an invoice remain unpaid after 30 days without our agreement, we reserve the right to charge interest of 1.5% for any late payment and to exercise a lien on your horse, tack and/or other equipment. Such a lien entitles Doghill Stud to sell any or all of them in order to settle the outstanding invoice(s). You will be given a minimum of 7 calendar days’ notice of our intention to do this. We will deduct all outstanding amounts from the proceeds of any sale, including the costs of keeping the horse until sold and any expenses relating to the sale. Any surplus will be sent to you, by cheque, within 14 days of the sale.
If an invoice remains unpaid after 30 days and we have not heard from you after us making reasonable attempts to contact you to settle your bill via both phone and letter, we will inform you in writing via first class recorded delivery that we consider the horse abandoned. If you have not responded to this letter within 7 days of the postage date, we will take possession and ownership of the horse and deal with it appropriately, either by sale or euthanasia. You will be liable for our outstanding costs relating to the disposal of the horse.
In an emergency involving your horse, we will always try to contact you promptly, but reserve the right, without notification to you, to call a veterinary surgeon, farrier or any other professional assistance where we judge it reasonably necessary. This will be at full cost to you. Where we have been unable to contact you in advance, you will be notified of such action as soon as reasonably practicable. In the event that a veterinary surgeon recommends immediate euthanasia, you are deemed to have authorised Doghill Stud, its proprietors and/or employees to consent to that being done at your cost. Again, where reasonably practicable you will be notified in advance of any such action. Disposal of any carcase will be your responsibility and must be arranged without undue delay.
- Infectious disease & biosecurity
Before arriving at Doghill Stud your horse will have veterinary evidence showing that it has been tested clear of strangles and you will provide this. On arrival your horse will be quarantined for a period of 7 days. There is no exception to this rule.
You will keep vaccinations for Flu and Tetanus up to date. We can organise this at your cost.
Doghill Stud shall have the right to move any horse, at your expense, in the event your horse is either carrying or contracts during the term of this agreement a contagious or infectious disease. Such removal shall be only upon the advice of the stud’s veterinarian, and only after an attempt has been made to notify you.
- Professional and Veterinary fees.
Your horse will be registered with our farrier and our veterinary surgeon and they will bill you direct for any farrier services and veterinary costs incurred by your horse.
You are fully liable for all and any professional fees relating to your horse that are not outlined in the attached schedule of services.
- Termination of Agreement.
This agreement may be terminated by you at any time, subject to a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice being given in writing. Please note that your horse, tack and other equipment should not be removed until all outstanding amounts have been paid.

In serious breach of contract, this agreement may be terminated by us with no notice. Should this occur, no refund of any payments already received on account will be made.
Any notice required to be given pursuant to this agreement shall be given by recorded first-class mail (or by telephone in the case of emergency veterinary measures), postage paid, to the address set forth herein, for the parties to whom it is intended and shall be effective upon dispatch.
This agreement shall be binding upon the heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns of the respective parties. This agreement represents the entire agreement between the parties hereto with respect to the subject matter contained herein, and any and all prior representations whether oral or in writing, shall be of no force or effect.
